Today we travelled into Geraldton to tick a few things off our list of to do. The service centre where we are having the car serviced on Friday is also very near the B & D door centre, so we decided to do a dry run in so we would know where to go on Friday and visit the door centre. I found myself wondering if we had chosen the right garage door colour for the house as we had picked from a small sample and not seen the entire door. This was the reason for the trip to reassure ourselves that we were entirely happy with the choice. Too late once it’s installed. Nothing to worry about.
Next on our list was the WA Museum. It was quite exciting to find that they were holding an exhibition of the inventions of Leonardo Da Vinci. Before we viewed this exhibition, we hurried off to join the tour that had just started on the wrecks of the WA coast.
We discovered that we made very bad Mona Lisa’s and didn’t even know how to pose correctly, let alone look serene.
There were several ship wrecks each with amazing stories of disaster and survival on the WA coast. All the relics in Geraldton are genuine. The stone arch scaled down because of the height restrictions of the museum was on the Batavia on way to Batavia as an entry to the fort. The guide gave a very knowledgeable and interesting talk. It was a great tour with a lot of information.
Leonardo Da Vinci – amazing inventions
The bike he designed His design for a self supporting bridge.
Other working models of his designs. There were many that you could operate.
It was late and the museum had given us a voucher for coffee, so we decided to have a Linner (lunch/dinner) at Skeeta’s cafe overlooking the boat harbour. Pork Pizza….mmmmm
We then visited the information centre, which is the original hospital and had intended on visiting the gaol but it was closed – this has now been rescheduled for Friday, along with the tour of the Cathedral. Last stop of the day was to the Sydney Memorial. Very nicely set out high above the harbour and beautifully done.
It is a wonderful tribute to the crew of HMAS Sydney II who lost their lives defending Australia.
I have been to the Sydney Memorial twice now and each time the bronze lady looking out to sea makes me feel so sad and proud at the same time. Not sure what it is about that particular statue but it is very poignant!
