We left camp around 9am for a drive and tour of the peninsula. - Trip Time 4 hours – Distance 67 kms.
We drove up to Point Sir Isaac – named by Matthew Flinders after Sir Isaac Coffin and out to Sensation Beach.
There is a lot of beach driving to access the point.
Coffin Bay is full of sea grass and it washes up on shore in large quantities. In some places it lies stacked like bales of hay up to over a metre in depth. You can’t drive on it as it is very very soft and you sink in it.
There are some massive sand dunes up to 7 metres high. There is a nice colour variation which is darker sand which is lighter than the white sand.
Once we were off the beach we encountered at least 40 Emu on our drive in the open plain
Time Line – Matthew Flinders came past in 1802

The remains of the well and the directions
The pile of rocks is all that remains of a settlers cottage in 1880
Out at Sir Isaac Point, there was a trawler working and a fur seal sleeping.
Seriously, blonde is so not you – change your hairdresser.
Now for those parrots - so shy, so annoying that you can’t get near them. We sorted out that they definitely do not have a orange belly – so these are the run of the mill Rock Parrots.
Leonardo the Teenage Mutant Ninja Parrot
They are so hard to see, they blend in beautifully with the surroundings.
This is the very top of the peninsula – Point Sir Isaac
We then drove around a little further – just for a look see
Above left is at the end of the point road. Above right – is a view of the road and point on our way back.
We then headed back down the peninsula and called into the camp site at Morgan’s Landing – it was far the best camp ground on the peninsula, but not worth the effort if you are towing. There was one camper in there with a Oz tent.
This is the sand dune you have to tackle if you want to go down to Sensation Beach. The Patrol is also on the top of the dune (left) above - it rather looks like a bush up there.
Going down to the beach
Coming back up
The last 4 x 4 ? someone has a sense of humour - Sensation Beach – yes it lives up to its’ name.
It’s now time for us to tackle the beach run home before high tide.
