25-26-27 Sat/Sun/Mon October 2014 – Denham Shark Bay, fine sunny windy

It was windy as usual, the only change around here is the amount of wind :)  We have extreme wind for the past couple of nights and the SS Camper Trailer set sail around Cape Horn last night (Sun) with our severe wind warnings.

Although we are back from the water front and behind two story apartments, we are still being buffeted by the heavy wind.

Saturday - We walked along the esplanade and did some browsing in the quirky shops and met the locals.  What an assorted bunch of people from everywhere with the only thing in common is that they are all living here.

The park has these very pretty melaleuca’s growing as a hedge plant.

We have added this one to our list to grow at the ranch.

It looks like a cut out channel to the pier.  The light blue is sand, but we aren’t sure if it is grass or rocks in the dark area.

Caravan Parks are great places for people watching.

There are an retired UK couple living permanently in the park until they build their kit house a couple of blocks away.  He is purchasing a kit home and is going to build it himself (aged 70). No cost plan, nothing submitted to council.  They will run out of money or time well before that house gets done. He is in no shape to even begin to tackle that project.    He has written a couple of books on Alien conspiracies.  You can’t get much further out there than that. I wondered why you would choose to live in such a remote location with the constant threat of cyclones. I found out the answer, there are a heap of pension benefits if you live above the 26th parallel in WA.  Free flight to Perth each year, fuel assistance and other remote benefits.

Next to us was a young bloke sleeping in his sedan car.  He had a white poodle that he walked everywhere and tied it to the bumper.  Fluffy wasn’t allowed to sleep in the car.  A strange one, if he’s on the phone you can here him a block away.  We were 30 metres from him on the esplanade and could hear his conversation about the cut he got from a razor clam.  When we got back to camp, we got the story again from him.  He made a phone call this morning at 5.30am and the whole park heard the conversation. note:  “loves the bush”    We think that he has a 44 door car as that was the number of times the doors were closed.  To top off his leaving he had Slim Dusty pub with no beer on loud as he left.  We were killing ourselves laughing at his antics and would he remember that he had the dog tied to the back bumper before he drove off.     Part of the journey is all of the characters you meet on the road :)

Sunday – everyone was battened down in their tents, vans, or trailers in our case.  We did a windy walk along the esplanade and the back blocks.  Saw the town Emu with 8 chicks.  Did we take cameras or phones, no of course not :(   The Emu has very dark feathers.  He is a regular and totally ignored everybody and cars as he walked the chicks around town.

Emu at Blue Dolphin Caravan Park DenhamMondayHad my phone with me today.  There are several emu and chicks around the area.  This single called into the park for drink at the bucket under the tap.  We caught up with more chores and catching up to date with the build paperwork, the electrical plan and the variations.  We were thinking of packing up tomorrow, but the weather today was great and tomorrow should be even better.

We booked a wildlife cruise for tomorrow morning and will be off early to see the Dolphin feeding at Monkey Mia and then do the cruise to specifically see the Dugongs.  We got a two for one offer so that was a good deal.
