Lots of steady rain today – the temperature has dropped to the low twenties. More rain is forecast tomorrow, so we might be having a wet pack up – our first on this trip.
Quite a few left camp this morning, but we are staying the extra day and enjoying a lazy day. We are always warm and comfortable in the trailer so the rain won’t bother us.
The rain is washing a lot of dust off the trailer and car which is great – it will freshen up everything.
We have read a couple of free to borrow books from the reception area. We returned the books and paid for our extra night and since the rain had stopped we decided to travel along the Mt Jacob Back Track – and then the Station Back Track. We had lunch on the way – I made a thermos of coffee just in case we needed to sit in the car for lunch.
If you just glance at the wall all you see are pink tones, but when we looked into it more, we discovered there were many colours from purple to pink to yellow and red.
Lots of striped hills, but in fact these are fine ridges of rock. The grey/green is small pieces of shale although from a distance it looks like grass.
There were a couple of hill top look outs on the track – which gave you some 4wd challenge and the views as well.
It’s steeper than it looks and barely enough room to turn around. We were on the down slope at the top, so you would not want to reach the summit too quickly.
The view down to the Flinders Ranges
We rejoined the main road to Arkaroola and then did the turn off to Station Back Track – this is a twin valley the same way as the entry into Arkaroola Resort, but you arrive at the back entrance of the camping area.
This is looking over to Acacia Ridge (in the distance) which we climbed yesterday, I bet when I look back to the photos, I will see the Telstra Tower here at Frome Look out.
Frome Look Out was an easy climb – well it is, if you are in the car. It was very steep – it would take a while to walk up it.
Tomorrow the plan was to go to Leigh Creek, up the highway to Lyndhurst and Marree and on to Coward Springs – to camp for the night., however overnight we had a lot more rain than expected. We decided not to move and it was a good choice. Came up to the resort reception around lunch time and the roads are cut and impassable. The people who packed up this morning are now having to re-set up camp again. We decided to stay the extra couple of days until Monday and let the roads dry out.
