It rained overnight and early this morning, just sprinkling – steady sprinkle which did not even wash the dust off the car. This morning we decided to stay in camp do some chores and head out this afternoon. The overnight temperatures are around 15c + and it was still in the twenties late into the evening. The day time temps are around 30c –
Sunrise this morning looked promising, but there was a little more rain to come.
Where to next? The yellow on the map shows where we have previously travelled in the top corner of SA – we have had a couple of trips to Sturt National Park, Congie Lakes, Cameron Corner and Innamincka. The pink is the area we are thinking of travelling to although to do the Birdsville track we will have to drive Marree to William Creek both ways to come back to do the track. We had considered doing a short section of the Strzelecki Track from Arkaroola, but have decided against that idea as we need to go Leigh Creek for a prescription, the easiest way is to go back the shortest way and then travel up to Lyndhurst and on to Marree. We will do another shop at the supermarket as we won’t see one for a while until we get to Boulia. The red is what we have previously done on this trip. We have been to Haddon Corner and Cameron Corner, so it will be tempting to go to Poeppel Corner.
After lunch we drove out to the waterhole hoping to see a couple of the rock wallabies, but a group was there with several kids who yelled and screamed and would have successfully driven every living thing away for miles around. They obviously went to the waterhole to view the wallabies as it is a point of interest, so you can only wonder if they can put two and two together and understand why they will not see any.
So many beautiful rocks around here. All colours – these ones have a silver sheen to them, unfortunately I can’t capture it on film.
They have lots of large rocks with name plates on the drive way to the Arkaroola Reception area.
We came back to camp and showered and went down to the restaurant for a meal. They give you massive serves of food in the outback, I’m sure it’s to sustain you if you get lost for a week.
