Monday 15th, Tuesday 16th December – warm fine sunny

Monday 15th December – overcast – spent the day at camp, going through the house plans, variations and costing and doing a big catch up to ensure that we have everything in order.

Glen suffered cabin fever, so Tuesday is a big day out.   :)

Tuesday, we are off to do some four wheel driving.  We left camp and travelled along the Collie River – one way road to Honeymoon Pool  We walked the track on the other side during our hike.

                                  They call this Big Rock

The river is a kayaker’s dream, lots of really nice rapids.

Great swimming spots with deep still ponds as well.  Saw our first Marron in the river.  Very surprised by how big they grow.

Just before Honeymoon Pool is the 4WD track turn off.

This track is looked after by a 4WD club and keeping it open allows easy access for fire fighting.

We were very tempted to stop on the track for lunch – we didn’t have a detailed map of the track, but we held off as we have been caught out before stopping in a rough spot to only find out that a short distance ahead was a great picnic spot.  Our gamble paid off this time.  We came across a large clearing with tables, shade and right on the river with a jetty.

Up and Down stream photos from picnic area

The road so far has been very easy travelling, the challenges await us.

Someone spent a lot of time building a ramp over this downed tree.  As we previously said a tree down here is not as simple as it is at home.

It is steep either side of the log.  Lets see if we can sneak over on a angle to clear it.  We have been following a tributary of the Collie River and we are on the western side of Mt Lennard.  It is small and tall, towering over us.

Only just cleared underneath but we have run out of height for along the side steps.

Colley - Wellington National Park Area 068We took it easy, no damage and not stuck, time to back off, we aren’t going to clear it.  We saw another road back down the track and we are going to see where that goes.  We don’t have the track map, but we have our memory maps live tracking us, so we can work out what direction that we should be heading.

We are now back on the Collie River and heading around the base of the mountain.  Glen is in the distance of the first photo and a close up of the same area.

I didn’t take a photo of the tracking, but this is approximately the track we took.

This was a very steep & rough climb up the mountain.  The photo doesn’t do it justice.

This was filmed almost at the top, as it took me several goes to try and control the camera, so it wasn't filming our dash :)

Colley - Wellington National Park Area 080We manoeuvred our way towards a road marked on our mapping – Waterfall Road and being at the top of the range, we had to descend to Bakurup and then head north to the Collie turn off and then climb the range again to Wellington Dam.  It was a nice little round trip with lots of different scenery.
