Tuesday 2nd December 2014 – Lane Poole Conservation Park – Cool - Sunny

Most of the parks have entry station so that they can collect day entry fees.  We have a annual parks pass which is a huge savings.
We stopped and picked up the park brochures.

This lily was in with the red kangaroo paw at the entry station garden.  It looked like a day lily to me, but must be a native.

The river flowing through the park is the Murray River.  A popular spot for kayaking.

This is new Baden Powell camp ground (online bookings only) opened in 2013.  They have closed old Baden Powell and are in the process of redeveloping it as a large day use area.

Yes, we are thinking.   why,  why, why are we not here.  No one camped here and first class facilities.  They have walk in tent sites, camper trailer and caravan sites.  Lots of camp kitchens and clean toilet facilities.   It was frustrating that the website is down.

Lane Poole seems to be managed in conjunction with forestry.

I imagine that once there was a forest of many trees all the same size as this lonely one.

We came upon some teenage students on a camp, getting a thrill by being washed through the road pipes.  Not a teacher in sight.  Can imagine their horror to find them doing this. It wasn’t unsafe or we would have stopped them. You have to have fun when you are young.

We stopped further upstream for lunch and had a visitor.

After lunch, we tackled a walk.  It was quite hot by then.

Sitting quietly under the sign was a white breasted robin.  Only found in WA, another new one to tick off in our bird book.  The walk was 2.1 km and was mostly all uphill.  I had not been well that morning, and struggled lacking energy.  Kept at it and eventually it turned downhill.  The heat didn’t help.

Now late afternoon, we headed back into Dwellingup and decided to treat ourselves to a cuppa at the Blue Wren Cafe.

It was a nice shabby chic cafe with a lovely arbour with a grape vine over the top.

and then back to Camp Cacky

We decided to move to Pinjarrah Camp Ground just outside Pinjarra.  It is about 20 kms to the west and we will base ourselves there.  We need phone/internet while we are doing the final roundup of the house necessities before the onsite meeting in March, bearing in mind that the trade closes over the Christmas period.  We have the roof bag now redirected to Busselton and will pick it up on our way to Augusta.

  1. We really liked Lane Poole - hardly anyone where we camped down the far south end. I think we have even been to the Blue Wren Cafe!
