Pinjarra – Old Coast Road to Lake Clifton to Mandurah – Wednesday 10th December

Fine, warm, sunny some clouds.  The days are so changeable.  It can be bright and sunny, then overcast and threaten to rain, then clear again.  The changes move through very fast.

This trip was the yellow circuit on the front map.

At Mandurah there is a very large estuary which was not open to the ocean, until they made two channel cuts in.

Lake Clifton is part of Yalgorup National Park.

Nice walk out to the lake.  This time we are going to view Thrombolites – another lot of bacteria rock like formations which were the start up producing oxygen to begin life on earth.

There were thousands of fingerlings everywhere and quite a few seagulls paddling like made to snap up a meal.  A very healthy waterway with clear water and lots of fish.

This was a great idea.  They have a fixed camera position and ask that you take and photo with a date and time stamp and email off to them for monitoring the of waterway.  Here is my picture from the position which I will email to them.  That way they get lots of photos for comparison.

We then took a scenic drive around the inlet on the way to Mandurah.  It wasn’t scenic as the view was blocked by the natural tea tree growth.  We found a park which gave us a view of the water.  It was low tide and was a bit smelly with mudflats.  Most of the houses were built on a escarpment high above giving them views of the inlet.

A view of the Mandurah beach.  We did a detour of the modern canal houses.  For a moment I thought we were in Venice.  The houses are of a mediterrean style and built high right on the canals and very close together.  There is very little difference in the styles and it’s not appealing.  The urban sprawl is obvious and it seems that the new areas are very new and the old areas are very old and tired.  There doesn’t seem a need or a move to renovate the older homes, we you have unlimited availability of new house and land releases.

We had lunch in Halls Park – same place on our last visit to Mandurah, but was still breezy but not to the extent of last time.  Next port of call was to electrical wholesalers to get information on the huge variety of down lights and recessed lighting for our house.  Armed with information, we headed back to camp at Pinjarra.

  1. The canals at Mandurah must have reminded you of the GC ones?!
