Today’s the day to go to the water wheel down near the lighthouse and have another try at the Look Out.
The water wheel is calcified over from the lime in the water and there isn’t much flow from the wetlands behind, so it is now recycled pumped to keep the the wheel from deteriorating.
We were told when we were at Mammoth Cave from stream that flows through the cave, the water ends up at the water wheel. The cave stream hardly flows anymore which explains the lack of water at the wheel.
The water wheel was a method of pumping water to the lighthouse.
We drove around to Quarry Bay named, as the stone for the lighthouse was quarried here.
The view back to the Lighthouse and a photo of the wind swept shoreline plant life.
We are now off down Skippy Road on our way back to town to drive up to the look out.
We stopped at Diana Road, as I had seen a great dirt road view the other day, the photo didn’t show what I had seen with my eyes, but I am happy with the above one of the main road. It captures how lovely the drive is. This is all just about 4 kilometres from the main street.
The Look Out -
Antarctica is about 5,500 klms away.
The view from the look out - I took two photos, so I could leave out the beautifully positioned tower spoiling the view.
A wildflower that was growing at the look out - I will have to work on identifying it. Just a single flower straight out of the ground.
We thought we would have too much time here a Augusta, but are starting to realize that we need to finish our trips around here as we are already half way past our time here. We are going to take the opportunity to do a total clean and repack of all our gear.
This is our last section of this area to explore, before we start our journey east.
