Thursday 22nd & Friday 23rd January 2015 – Fine Clear Sunny – perfect weather

On Thursday we were heading to do another of the walks at Porongurup National Park, when the Patrol for the second day running, after a perfect start up after travelling  40 metres to the highway stop sign started to run rough for a few minutes.  We decided that we should not ignore what was happening, so turned right instead of left.  It is rather confusing as it is starting okay and seems fuel starved – to cut a long story short, we had the fuel filter changed. We returned to camp and let the car sit for the afternoon to cool down and did another drive early evening to make sure it was only occurring from a overnight stand.  Glen did a test run early this morning and it was perfect. The test run did not involve the same route where the problem was occurring i.e. a short run, then a stop sign, so we may not yet be out of the woods.  We window shopped instead of doing our walk while the car was being checked.  Our drive was into Albany for dinner at the Venetian Restaurant – It was a exceptionally well run restaurant serving Italian food.  We had a tasting plate (shared) to start and that would have done us, we had ordered a gourmet pizza. (pumpkin, feta, cherry tomato, roasted almonds) nice combination.   The prices were just the same as a fast food pizza shop – good value.  Half our pizza came home with us.

Friday -   sorry to leave Albany Happy Days Caravan Park, what a great place, we enjoyed our stay there.  We said goodbye to our next door neighbours who are retired but do volunteer guiding at Kings Park and Rottnest Island.  They gave us their phone number for us to look them up when we get back to Perth.  We do plan to fly back at some stage and do all the Perth City, Fremantle & Rottnest Island highlights.
We got to turn left today and head to Stirling Ranges – Whooo Hoooo -  a place that I have really wanted to visit.  Driving towards the ranges is just great.  They loom out of no where and look big and rugged.  We are going to get to as many walks as we can.  There are six walks, three are Grade 4 and three are Grade 5 -  I wonder if I will still be in love with them, when the going gets tough on the steep sections of the Grade 5 walks?

We arrived at the Moingup Spring camping ground just before lunch and had the pick of the entire ground.  No one else was there.  Later this afternoon we have two tents and another camper trailer.  We had expected more people to be here as it is a long weekend and the school holidays.  I have not seen so many small birds in one spot the entire trip.  The abundance of bird life is excellent.  Maybe I will get a few good photos.  The amenity block is clean and has flushing toilets and there are BBQs with stainless steel cooking plates and gas rings.

The weather is warmer here, so we will have to do early walks and have them done by 11am at the latest.

Some quick snaps of some of the birds near our camp this afternoon.

Black and White Cockatoo’s.  These seem to have a long bill, not sure if they are Carneys – will check them out in the bird book.

Cute little Blue Wren – Haven’t seen the male to identify which ones they are.

There are dozens of grey fantails here.  I am hoping to get a perfect shot of the tail fanned out, but they are so very fast.
